In 1938, Austrian composer Victor Urbancic had to flee the Nazis. Eventually, he and his family ended up in Iceland – the end of the world. By following the preparations of an Austrian choir for their tour to Iceland and interviews with his daughter Sibyl Urbancic, his vast influence on the Icelandic music scene is shown.

Synopsis (German)
Der abendfüllende Dokumentarfilm AUSTROSCHWARZ handelt vom Schwarzen Kunst- und Kulturschaffenden Mwita Mataro. Der gebürtige Salzburger nimmt uns für 90 Minuten in seine Lebensrealität mit und lässt uns an der Auseinandersetzung mit seiner Schwarzen Hautfarbe teilhaben. Stilistisch bricht der Film dafür mit der konventionellen Erzählung des Dokumentarfilms, um stattdessen mit einer Kombination aus Roadmovie, essayistischem Film und Zeichentrick eine einfühlsame Perspektive einzunehmen. AUSTROSCHWARZ ist ein intimes Portrait, ein Film über persönliche und nationale Identität und über ein diverses Österreich. Ein Film über Empowerment, nicht über Rassismus.

INDEPENDENCIA follows the Bolivian musician Jorge “Coco” Aquino and his group Sacambaya on their tour through Europe, from Slovenia to the Pyrenees.
Every two to three years, the musicians embark on concert tours to finance social and cultural projects in their hometown of Villa de la Independencia, which have an immense impact on the lives of people in the village located at over 2,600 meters above sea level. In recent years, bicycles have been purchased, water pipes and solar panels have been built, and a cultural center has been established.
It will be Coco’s last tour. Has he inspired enough people, or will the project retire with him? A film about music, self-empowerment, and building bridges.

Der Dokumentarfilm Independencia begleitet den bolivianischen Musiker Jorge Aquino und seine Gruppe Sacambaya auf ihrer Tournee durch Europa, von Slowenien bis an die Pyrenäen.
Alle zwei bis drei Jahre treten die Musiker:innen solche Konzertreisen an, um damit in ihrem Heimatort Villa de la Independencia Sozial- und Kulturprojekte zu finanzieren, die einen immensen Einfluss auf das Leben der Menschen in dem auf über 2.600 Höhenmetern gelegenen Dorf haben. So konnten in den letzten Jahren Fahrräder angeschafft, Wasserleitungen und Solaranlagen gebaut und ein Kulturzentrum errichtet werden.
Der gelernte Agraringenieur Jorge, der von allen nur Coco genannt wird, lebt für dieses Projekt zwischen zwei Welten: In Europa erleben wir ihn als Musiker und begeisternden Lobbyisten, zuhause in Bolivien als Familienmensch, als Unterstützer und als Förderer.
Diese Tournee wird Cocos letzte Konzertreise in Europa sein. Hat er genug Menschen mit seinen Ideen angesteckt, oder wird das Projekt mit ihm in Pension gehen? Der Film soll aufzeigen, welche Brücken über Kontinente, Sprachen und Kulturen hinweg mithilfe von Musik gebaut werden können und erforschen, was „Entwicklungsarbeit“ eigentlich bedeuten kann.
Der Film stellt durch ein Cross-Cutting zwischen den Schauplätzen der Tournee in Europa und dem Dorf Independencia die Arbeit von Coco und den Musiker:innen in Europa mit ihrem Alltag und ihren Tätigkeiten in Bolivien gegenüber.

Based on his documentary short A BETTER ABROAD, in this feature-lenght documentary, filmmaker Cristi Iorga explores his identity as part of the Romanian diaspora in Austria.
To achieve this, he takes a look at the relationship with his father, who grew up in communist Romania and regularly expresses his deep-rooted skepticism towards his own country. Are Romanians doomed to always think like this about themselves, even in the current generation of young adults?

The documentary follows an Austrian youth choir on their tour to South Africa where they collaborate with the renowned South African Bochabela String Orchestra.
While the young musicians juxtapose Mozart's famous "Requiem" with traditional South African mourning music, their personal views on grief, death, and the afterlife are explored.
